Y Cledrau

I was commissioned by Y Cledrau to design the album artwork for their 2021 release, Cashews Blasus. Y Cledrau are a Welsh-language indie rock band from Y Bala, North Wales, made up of four members: Joseff Owens, Ifan Prys, Marged Gwenllian and Alun Lloyd.

The band’s music and lyrics are upbeat, choppy and playfully unpredictable, and I wanted the visuals to reflect that same energy. Taking direct inspiration from their sound and lyrics, I created a bold and expressive visual language that represents the character of the music.

I began the project by developing a simple grid system, which allowed me to create a series of modular illustrations. This approach made it possible to experiment with different compositions while maintaining a consistent look and feel. The final visuals were applied across a range of outputs, including the album cover, two single covers, a poster, T-shirt design and social media graphics.
